Staff at Bear Pond Books
We are pleased to have such an amazing staff working at Bear Pond Books. Check out their mini-bios below and then read their book recommendations.

Pat L-S
Pat has been the events coordinator at Bear Pond Books for over 9 years now. She oversees all author events and also updates the website and sends out those monthly e-mail newsletters you receive in your in box. She loves being in the outdoors whether it is cross country skiing, hiking, biking, kayaking or just staring at trees and birds. Her reading preference usually leans towards good fiction(she won’t finish a book she doesn’t like). Pat’s Book Recommendations

Amanda
Amanda has been coming to Bear Pond for years–she grew up in Montpelier–and is happy to be on staff. When she’s not sitting at her desk ordering books or buzzing around the store, she assists Pat in running the author events. In her free time she volunteers for Lost Nation Theater. Amanda mainly likes to read fiction, but she is slowly starting to expand to other genres. Amanda’s Book Recommendations

Suzanne
Suzanne has been living in Montpelier for over 30 years. A NJ native, her first book store memory is of Brentano’s. Her love of reading fiction began in middle school when her English teacher, Mrs. Fahringer, required the class to read Paton’s Cry, the Beloved Country. Memoir and nature writing are close seconds. Recently she and her husband built a one room cabin with outhouse in the North East Kingdom where they sit back and enjoy the sounds of whippoorwills, indigo buntings and a couple of resident moose. George
George grew up on a Vermont dairy farm but eventually discovered that the only cow he knew who could read was Mrs. Wiggins from the Freddy the Pig books. So he left to look for more Freddy the Pigs. He currently runs the Mystery Book Group [which could really use a name - Suggestions? Anyone? Please?] at Bear Pond and works at the Kellogg Hubbard Library and will read just about anything. He still misses cows and, turns out, he’s also not particularly fond of writing about himself in the third person…Check out George’s recommendations here.

Patty
For someone who doesn’t work here anymore, Patty works a lot! Her passion is dancing among other things– such as traveling to Ireland and Cape Breton to dance. Did I say she loves to dance. We all hope she continues to “not work here” as much as she does now. Check out Patty’s recommendations here.

Tim
Tim is from a small town in New Hampshire, where he started procrastinating at an early age, long before it was “cool”. In previous lives, he has been a Hamster, a Gofer and a Prop Master, and he still keeps one foot in the restaurant world. He looks after the cookbooks, and in his spare time enjoys reading about Sociology, Nature and Metaphysics. He is learning about home improvement by trial and error. When he grows up, he wants to be a Super-Hero. Tim’s recommendations here.

Claire
Claire is the co-owner of Bear Pond, along with her husband Rob (who can usually be found at Rivendell Books). She gets to order the adult titles along with many other jobs in the store. Claire reads a lot of fiction and occasionally thinks about branching out but never really gets too far. She lives in Montpelier with her family and can often be seen trudging up and down East State Street. Check out Claire’s recommendations here

Jane
Jane has worked at Bear Pond Books for as long as she can remember. In 2006 she began ordering the children’s books and hasn’t looked back since. She still enjoys reading poetry but generally sticks to a strict children’s book diet, which suits her just fine. Jane’s Book Recommendations

Lynne
Lynne, a native of Syracuse, NY, has lived in Montpelier for thirteen years. She has been disappearing into books for as long as she can remember and reads just about every genre but especially loves politics, public policy, art, and fiction so compelling she forgets to breathe. She also owns way too many cookbooks and considers cake one of the four food groups (the others are champagne, popcorn, and cheese). When not wrangling the cards and stationery at Bear Pond, she can be found in her art studio smeared with gesso and paint, grinning from ear to ear. Lynne’s Book Recommendations

Mary
Mary has many interests that include walking, snowshoeing, kayaking, reading, and watching football on Sunday afternoon. Her reading ranges from poetry to nature-writing to books about travel but her favorite genre is mysteries.
Mary has a ” dark side” too. She loves dark coffee, dark chocolate and dark beer! Come in and meet Mary and chat about favorite books (She is always interested in what others are reading)… or coffee, chocolate or beer! Mary’s Book Recommendations

Chris
Chris moved to Vermont from Austin, Texas in 2001 and has been at Bear Pond Books since the spring of 2002. He misses the barbecue but otherwise prefers Vermont, and considers Montpelier to be the finest small town in America. Chris has a new favorite genre just about every month, but is a particular fan of contemporary American fiction. He likes to hike, ski, explore the back roads, and eat, especially during winter. Check out Chris’s recommendations here.

Tom
Tom
Tom was born in Portland, Maine, in 1987 but raised in Vermont. Since then, he’s traveled to other areas of the world, but always comes back to Vermont. He feels a great pride for his unique state and intends to stay a while. He loves animals almost more than people, especially goats and cats. He studies education at Goddard College and swings a kettlebell in his free time. Tom loves to read westerns, science fiction, comic books and graphic novels, nature writing, obscure eastern philosophy, and anything controversial.
He also likes to hike, swim, make bon fires, and anything else that involves being outside.
