Bear Pond Books, 77 Main Street, Montpelier, Vermont.
Since 1973, Bear Pond Books has been a cornerstone of downtown Montpelier. We offer a wide range of new and used general interest books and a spacious second floor Children's Room. We are an integral part of the community and strive to be a destination where readers of all ages are socially engaged, intellectually inspired, and entertained through great books and literary experience. We pride ourselves on our well-curated selection of books, dedicated staff, and exceptional customer service. Whether you come to check out the Bestsellers, the Staff Picks, or to say hello to Veruca the Russian Tortoise upstairs, we have something for you. Discover Something Wonderful.
The store was originally opened by Michael Katzenberg in 1973 at 100 Main Street where it lived happily until the flood of 1992. At that time we moved across the street to the present location. The name comes from a small pond on a remote part of Mt. Mansfield in Stowe that is no longer accessible to hikers. In 2006, the owners of Montpelier's Rivendell Books, Claire Benedict and Robert Kasow (pictured above), purchased the business from Katzenberg. Bear Pond merged with Rivendell Books in 2015 and began offering used books at that time.
