Many Vermonters will recognize Bill Schubart from his regular contributions as a commentator on Vermont Public Radio, as well as his role on Boards for prominent Vermont organizations and commissions - including as the current chairman of the Board of Vermont College of Fine Arts.
Schubart's catalogue of books includes both short story collections and novels. Often they feature characters based on Vermonters he's known in his time here (if we're splitting hairs, he's not actually a lifelong Vermonter - he arrived in Vermont as a baby in 1947 - still, close). With the 2014 publication of Lamoille Stories (Vol. 2) Schubart is coming to Bear Pond Books to discuss Vermont as a Character with fellow Vermont author Archer Mayor. This event begins at 7:00 pm.
Bill Schubart's perspective on Vermont is based on a diversity of interests. In his opinion pieces, you can read his thoughts on everything from school governance to the future of Vermont public television. His speaking engagements include topics such as tax policy, education, and corporate culture, as well as graduation keynote addresses. And, of course, there is simply his interest in human nature, personal stories, and the stories we tell each other.
