Join Reuben Jackson for a reading & signing of his new book of poetry at Bear Pond Books on Tuesday, October 8th at 7:00pm!
This collection of new and selected poems is a breath of fresh air. A celebrated jazz scholar and black man in America tells it like it is, and with such rhythm and blues we are moved to "mmmm hmmmms," or, if this is your fancy: "Amens." Poems as tributes to Trayvon Martin and Frank Sinatra grace these pages, as do odes to cancer, and Miles Davis's Kind of Blue. It's not all blue, though, as Jackson's heart and wit shine through. What I love most of all, is how Jackson inserts the black experience into the human experience, like in his final poem of the collection, "This African American Life," where we are blessed to have our eyes feast upon his black humanity.— Sam
