Description

The thrilling sequel to Monstrous Devices--Alex and his grandfather hold the fate of history itself in their hands in a Rick Riordan meets Raiders of the Lost Ark adventure of epic proportions!

A few months ago, Alex's world changed...forever.

Now, just when it seems life is almost getting back to normal, Alex's grandfather crashes back into the picture with grave news: their friend Harry has fallen into the clutches of a familiar foe, and the old man needs Alex's help to rescue him.

This time, the duo's desperate dash across Europe leads from Paris deep into Germany's foreboding Black Forest, as they chase down the mystery Harry had been investigating when he disappeared. A series of art thefts has made headlines across the continent, but the thieves are after more than priceless paintings. In the wrong hands, these stolen artifacts could unlock an ancient secret bigger than anything Alex ever dreamed of. If they can't solve the riddle in time, innocent lives - and even history itself - could be at stake.

About the Author

Damien Love was born in Scotland and lives in the city of Glasgow, where, even as you read these words, it is raining. He has worked as a journalist for many years, writing about movies, music, TV, and other things for a variety of publications. He has the ability to talk to cats, but there is no evidence that they understand him. Monstrous Devices was his first novel, followed by its sequel, The Shadow Arts.

Raves for The Shadow Arts

"Breathlessly paced adventure with rousingly eerie and icky notes."--Kirkus Reviews

"The breathless action is back… and fans of the first book will be happy to be pulled along."--Booklist

“For fans of the first book and readers who enjoy action mixed in with their supernatural…Though there is still plenty of action to be found in car chases, heists, and kidnappings, the characters have matured…and are willing to make big decisions.”--School Library Journal

Praise for Monstrous Devices

"I enjoyed everything about Damien Love's debut--its title, its breakneck action, its sly sense of humor. If you imagine Rick and Morty colliding with early Spielberg, you get some idea of this delirious adventure . . . and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it on the screen. I wish my first novel had been as imaginative and assured." --Anthony Horowitz, New York Times bestselling author of the Alex Rider series

"What fun! An evil villain, a host of scary robots, big and small, and a hero with commendably bad personal habits. Loved it!" --John Flanagan, New York Times bestselling author of the Ranger's Apprentice and Brotherband series

"Monstrous Devices effortlessly brings mythic legend and modern life together in one exhilarating, breathless chase. With humor, relentless adventure, and true insight, Damien Love compels us to look closely at our wishes and illusions, at the dark and light forces of creation, at what really makes us tick." --S. E. Grove, New York Times bestselling author of The Glass Sentence

* "Frightening and mysterious . . . [A] well-crafted adventure."--Publishers Weekly, starred review

"A well-knit debut generously stocked with chills, thrills, and chancy exploits."--Kirkus Reviews
