Description

In the eleventh Complete Love and Rockets Library (the fifth chronologically in Gilbert Hernandez’s Palomar main storyline), Ofelia threatens to write a book about Luba, and Fritz and Pipo fall in love.

The eleventh volume of The Complete Love and Rockets Library (the fifth chronologically in Gilbert Hernandez’s Palomar main storyline) collects stories from 2000–2005. In Ofelia, the sisters, the kids, and the cousins are all settled comfortably in California after leaving Palomar in Luba and Her Family. Luba’s and her cousin Ofelia's relationship has always been fraught, but when Ofelia threatens to write a book about Luba, past memories, secrets, resentments, and pain resurface. Meanwhile, Luba's children — genius Socorro, recently out-and-proud Doralis, and prickly Maricela — show that a talent for trouble may be hereditary. Luba's sisters, Fritz and Petra, swap lovers (as usual), but … are Fritz and family friend Pipo sittin' in a tree? These vividly drawn characters are charged with Hernandez's trademark complexity; they live, love, age, fight— and die—in this sweeping, multi-generational saga.

About the Author

Gilbert Hernandez was born in 1957 in Oxnard, California, and is considered one of the greatest living comics writer-artists in the world. In 1982, Hernandez co-created, along with his brothers Mario and Jaime, the ongoing, iconic, internationally acclaimed comic book series Love and Rockets, one of the greatest bodies of work the medium has ever seen. In addition to his work on Love and Rockets, its spinoffs, and side series, Hernandez has released a prodigious amount of original graphic novels and miniseries, such as Sloth, Bumperhead, and Marble Season. He also collaborated with Darwyn Cooke on The Twilight Children for DC. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in 2017 and is the recipient of a Fellow Award from United States Artists and a PEN Center USA’s Graphic Literature Award for Outstanding Body of Work. Hernandez lives in Ventura, CA, with his wife and daughter.

Praise for Ofelia: A Love and Rockets Book (The Complete Love and Rockets Library)

Engrossing, sexually explicit, violent, and satirical.
— Booklist

I don’t really understand why the material of Love and Rockets isn’t widely regarded as one of the finest pieces of fiction of the last 35 years. Because it is.
